Let the Party’s Innovative Theory Penetrate Deeper into the Hearts of the People

Recently, General Secretary Xi Jinping issued an important directive on the project of studying and developing Marxist theory for the new era, emphasizing that on the new journey of the new era, we must uphold fundamental principles and break new ground, focus on studying, propagating, and implementing the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, make greater efforts to conduct systematic and theoretical research and interpretation, make greater efforts to enhance the targeting and effectiveness of study and propagation, and push the Party’s innovative theory to penetrate deeper into the hearts of the people. The process of the Party’s theoretical innovation is a process of summing up experience, exploring the unknown, and discovering truth, containing profound principles, academic theories, and philosophies. Comprehensively and systematically understanding the new experience and new wisdom it provides helps to further enhance theoretical consciousness and theoretical confidence, and better enable the Party’s innovative theoretical achievements to “fly into the homes of ordinary people.” [1]1 “飞入寻常百姓家” (fei ru xunchang baixing jia) is a classical Chinese poetic phrase from Liu Yuxi’s “Wuyi Alley,” meaning “fly into the homes of ordinary people,” used here metaphorically to describe making theory accessible to the masses.

近日，习近平总书记对新时代马克思主义理论研究和建设工程作出重要指示强调，新时代新征程，要坚持守正创新，聚焦学习宣传贯彻新时代中国特色社会主义思想，着力深化体系化、学理化研究阐释，着力增强学习宣传的针对性、实效性，推动党的创新理论更加深入人心。党的理论创新过程是一个总结经验、探求未知、发现真理的过程，蕴含着深刻的道理、学理、哲理，全面系统理解其所提供的新经验新智慧，有助于进一步增强理论自觉和理论自信，更好地让党的创新理论成果“飞入寻常百姓家”。

Propagate well the historical experience of the century-long struggle. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out, “Comprehensively building a modern socialist country is a great and arduous undertaking, with a bright future and a long and heavy task.” Looking back, modern China was deeply mired in a crisis of national survival. Countless people with lofty ideals actively explored ways to save the country and the people, but all ended in failure. It was precisely the arrival of Marxism that pointed the way forward and provided a path choice for the Chinese people. Along the way, facing new situations, new tasks, and new requirements, our Party has always held high the banner of Marxist theory, promoted the development of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times, and the Chinese nation has successively realized the great cause of national salvation, the great cause of national rejuvenation, and the great cause of national prosperity, [2]2 “救国大业——兴国大业——富国大业” (national salvation, national rejuvenation, national prosperity) and “强国大业” (building a strong country) are standard CPC periodizations of the Party’s historical achievements since its founding. and has continuously deepened the great cause of building a strong country, pushing forward the cause of the Party and the people by leaps and bounds, and demonstrating to the world another broad road to modernization with world-renowned historical achievements. Great practice gives birth to great thought; great thought leads a great era. Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, as the latest theoretical achievement of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times, has shown great truth power and ideological force in guiding practice, grasping historical initiative, and conforming to the trend of the times. Marxism adapted to the Chinese context and the needs of the times is the uniquely reliable theory for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. On the path forward, we must continue to hold high the great banner of Marxism, so that the beautiful prospects of human society envisioned by Marx and Engels are vividly displayed on Chinese soil.

宣传好百年奋斗的历史经验。习近平总书记指出，“全面建设社会主义现代化国家，是一项伟大而艰巨的事业，前途光明，任重道远”。回顾过去，近代的中国深陷民族存亡危机之中，无数仁人志士积极探求救国救民之路，却都以失败而告终。正是马克思主义的到来，为中国人民指明了前进方向和提供了道路选择。一路走来，面对新形势新任务新要求，我们党始终高扬马克思主义理论旗帜，推动马克思主义中国化时代化发展，中华民族接续实现了救国大业——兴国大业——富国大业，并把实现强国大业不断引向深入，推动党和人民事业实现大跨步跃升，以举世瞩目的历史成就向世界展示了另一条通往现代化的康庄大道。伟大实践催生伟大思想、伟大思想引领伟大时代。习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想作为马克思主义中国化时代化的最新理论成果，在指导实践、把握历史主动、顺应时代潮流中展现出巨大真理力量和思想伟力。中国化时代化的马克思主义是实现中华民族伟大复兴独有可靠的理论，前进道路上，我们要继续高扬马克思主义伟大旗帜，让马克思、恩格斯设想的人类社会美好前景不断在中国大地上栩栩展现出来。

Hold fast to the people-centered question of original aspiration. “The people-centered nature is the most distinctive character of Marxism.” The theoretical stance of Marxism is rooted in the masses of the people, and for the first time it scientifically explains that the masses of the people are the main body of social practice and the creators of history. Achieving the fundamental liberation of the broadest masses of the people and the free and comprehensive development of the individual is the mission of Marxist theory. As a Marxist ruling party, the Communist Party of China has always practiced the Marxist view of the people, taken “serving the people wholeheartedly” as the Party’s action purpose, regarded “seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation” as the original aspiration and founding mission of Chinese Communists, always placed “people-centered” at the highest position of the entire Party, stood with the people in mutual support, worked together to create a better life, and won the sincere support and heartfelt endorsement of the broad masses of the people. To this end, Chinese Communists must cultivate the people-oriented sentiment of “I will have no self, and live up to the people,” [3]3 “我将无我，不负人民” (I will have no self, and live up to the people) is a thicken the theoretical foundation, uphold the governing concept of “taking the people’s heart as the heart,” use the practical activity of “I do practical things for the masses,” do more good deeds, more practical things, and solve more difficult problems for the masses with heart, feeling, and effort, firmly practice the thought of “seeking benefits for the overwhelming majority of the people,” forever maintain the Party’s political character, always conform to the trend of the times and the will of the people, stand at the forefront of historical development, and continuously write a new chapter in the great historical cause of the Party and the people.

坚守好人民至上的初心之问。“人民性是马克思主义最鲜明的品格。”马克思主义理论立场根植于人民群众，并首次以科学方式阐释了人民群众是社会实践的主体，是历史的创造者。实现最广大人民群众的根本性解放和人的自由而全面发展是马克思主义理论的使命所在。作为马克思主义执政党，中国共产党始终践行马克思主义人民观，并将“全心全意为人民服务”作为党的行动宗旨，把“为中国人民谋幸福，为中华民族谋复兴”作为中国共产党人的初心和使命，始终把“人民至上”摆在全党最高位置，与人民群众守望相助，携手一道创造美好生活，赢得了广大人民群众的真心拥护和倾心支持。为此，中国共产党人要在涵养“我将无我，不负人民”的为民情怀中厚植理论根基，秉持“以百姓心为心”的执政理念，以“我为群众办实事”实践活动，用心用情用力为群众多做好事、多办实事、多解难事，坚定地践行“为绝大多数人谋利益”的思想，永葆党的政治本色，始终做到顺应潮流、顺应民心，走在历史发展前列，不断续写党和人民历史伟业新篇章。

Marxist theory is a scientific truth, deepening the scientific understanding of the laws of governance by the Communist Party, the laws of socialist construction, and the laws of the development of human society. In particular, the creation and development of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era enriches the contemporary connotation of Marxist theory. It is the Marxism of contemporary China and the Marxism of the twenty-first century. It has unique theoretical advantages and practical directions for insight into the general trend of world development, and is a solid foundation for us to always maintain theoretical confidence. At present, we are closer than any time in history to realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and we also have greater confidence and strength to achieve this great goal. But when a boat reaches the middle of the river, the waves are more turbulent; when a person reaches halfway up the mountain, the slope is steeper. [5] Therefore, to strengthen theoretical confidence is to prevent theoretical distortion and confusion in political stance, to deepen research on the Party’s innovative theoretical achievements, to deeply answer China’s specific practical problems, to skillfully use the standpoints, viewpoints, and methods that run through them, to consciously draw a clear line with various erroneous trends of thought and ideologies, to further enhance theoretical confidence in Marxism adapted to the Chinese context and the needs of the times, to insist on using the “arrow” of Marxism to shoot at the “target” of China in the new era, to earnestly become a firm actionist and doer in Chinese-path modernization construction, and to advance with one heart and one mind toward realizing the second centenary goal.
