Strengthening the Leading Power of the “Grand Ideological and Political Course” through System Improvement

The construction of the “Grand Ideological and Political Course,” as a key link in university education and teaching, is an innovative move to create a new pattern of ideological and political education in the New Era, and it is also the key for universities to implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing people. To continuously deepen the reform and innovation of the “Grand Ideological and Political Course,” we must adhere to the principle of opening up the ideological and political course, fully mobilize resources and forces from all sides, effectively enhance the appeal and influence of ideological and political education, and strive to promote the connotative, high-quality development of ideological and political course construction. In its long-term educational practice, Wuhan University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as “the University”) has formed a distinctive school-running ideological system, forged the university spirit of “Virtue, Erudition, Pursuit of Excellence,” made good use of the “Grand Ideological and Political Course,” continuously shaped the brand of the “Grand Ideological and Political Course,” utilized the social ideological and political classroom well, shaped a new pattern of ideological and political education, and built a new high ground for ideological and political education.

“大思政课”建设作为高校教育教学的关键环节，是新时代开创思政教育新格局的创新之举，也是高校落实立德树人根本任务的关键。持续深化“大思政课”改革创新，要以坚持开门办思政课为遵循，充分调动各方资源与力量，切实增强思政教育的感染力和影响力，着力推动思政课建设内涵式高质量发展。武汉理工大学（以下简称“学校”）在长期的育人实践中形成了特色鲜明的办学思想体系，铸就了“厚德博学、追求卓越”的大学精神，善用“大思政课”，不断塑造“大思政课”品牌，用好社会思政大课堂，塑造思政育人新格局，打造思政育人新高地。

To run the ideological and political course well, we must make good use of the main channel of classroom teaching, continuously enrich the connotation and form of ideological and political education, construct a three-dimensional, systematic, and full-coverage ideological and political education system, so as to cultivate students’ feelings of family and country, enhance students’ cultural confidence, temper students’ will and character, and truly implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue and nurturing people. The University guards the main battlefield of ideological and political theory courses, attaches great importance to ideological and political theory courses, insists on using Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to forge souls and educate people, pays attention to the cultivation of students’ humanistic literacy and moral cultivation, and promotes the high-quality development of ideological and political education while upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground. On the basis of following the laws of student growth and development, teachers actively explore more teaching methods that students are happy to see and hear, combine national policies with life scenarios, and explain principles thoroughly and deeply in a way close to students’ actual lives, such as integrating real cases of rural revitalization into ideological and political courses, allowing students to truly feel the country’s progress and development. Empower ideological and political teaching with digitalization, actively create new models of ideological and political education, such as relying on virtual simulation technology to “move” the Red Memorial Hall into the classroom, create an immersive teaching environment, and present abstract ideological and political theory courses vividly to students. Apply modern teaching methods, innovate the educational links of the “Grand Ideological and Political Course,” transform the small ideological and political classroom into a debate feast, allowing students to appreciate “what is the key to common prosperity” and comprehend “the way of Chinese-path modernization” through personal participation, effectively enhance learning enthusiasm, and further understand the essential connotation and generative logic of Chinese-path modernization. In addition, the University comprehensively promotes the construction of course-based ideological and political education, prompting various courses to move in the same direction as ideological and political courses, forming a synergistic educational effect. Among them, “The Construction and Practice of a Collaborative Education System for General Physics Integrating ‘General Education and Ideological and Political Education’” was approved as a “2023 Ministry of Education University Ideological and Political Work Quality Improvement Comprehensive Reform and Quality Construction Project,” promoting a high degree of integration between course-based ideological and political education and professional education from an interdisciplinary perspective, organically integrating mathematics, physics, statistics, and other science and engineering teaching systems with major national strategic needs, professional teaching content, and ideological and political elements, introducing typical cases, and deepening ideal and belief education.

守好课堂教学主阵地。办好思政课，要用好课堂教学这个主渠道，不断丰富思政育人内涵和形式，构建立体化、系统性、全覆盖的思政育人体系，以涵养学生家国情怀，增强学生文化自信，锤炼学生意志品质，真正将立德树人根本任务落到实处。学校守好思政理论课主阵地，高度重视思政理论课，坚持用习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想铸魂育人，注重学生人文素养、道德修养的培养，在守正创新中推动思政教育高质量发展。教师在遵循学生成长和发展规律的基础上，主动探寻更多学生喜闻乐见的教学方法，将国家政策与生活场景相结合，以贴近学生生活实际的方式将道理讲深讲透，如将乡村振兴真实案例融入思政课，让学生真切感受国家的进步和发展。以数字化赋能思政教学，积极打造思政育人新模式，如依托虚拟仿真技术将红色纪念馆“搬”到课堂上，营造沉浸式教学环境，将抽象的思政理论课程生动形象地呈现给学生。应用现代化教学方式，创新“大思政课”育人环节，将思政小课堂转变为一场辩论盛宴，让学生在亲身参与中领略“共同富裕的关键是什么”，感悟“中国式现代化的门道”，切实提升学习积极性，进一步理解中国式现代化的本质内涵和生成逻辑。此外，学校全面推进课程思政建设，促使各类课程与思政课同向而行，形成协同育人效应，其中“融合‘通识·思政’的大物理协同育人课程体系的构建与实践”获批教育部“2023年度高校思想政治工作质量提升综合改革与精品建设项目”，以跨学科视角推动课程思政教育与专业教育高度衔接，将数学、物理、统计等理工类教学体系与国家重大战略需求、专业教学内容、思政元素有机融合，引入典型案例，深化理想信念教育。

For example, it has created a characteristic practical teaching brand for “Outline of Modern Chinese History,” with the activity “I Tell the Party History” achieving very significant results; the course “Ideological and Moral Cultivation and Legal Foundation” launched the “Love in the University of Technology” practical teaching, and the course “Basic Principles of Marxism” hosted the speech contest “Learn Marxist Classics, Be a New Era Talent,” etc., cultivating students’ patriotic feelings through participatory, interactive, and experiential teaching, creating a vivid textbook for students, to achieve the educational effect of enlightening the mind, inspiring the spirit, and stimulating the will. The University fully relies on excellent traditional Chinese culture and advanced culture of the New Era, builds characteristic culture and excellent culture, strengthens students’ cultural confidence, and by constructing the school-running ideological system of “Building Dreams, Forging Souls, Establishing Foundations, Nurturing People,” it gathers characteristic cultures such as academic culture, scientific and technological innovation culture, industry characteristic culture, network culture, and alumni culture. Using spiritual civilization columns such as “University of Technology Culture” as carriers, it fully leverages the role of the national ordinary university excellent traditional Chinese culture inheritance base, and through organizing and holding a series of activities such as saluting excellent traditional Chinese culture, the University of Technology Grand Stage, and elegant art entering campus, it consolidates students’ cultural consensus and achieves the educational effect of enlightening the mind. The University also focuses on enriching quality education resources, actively creating a good ecological environment for online and offline ideological and political education. For example, at the macro-planning level, it incorporates quality education into talent training planning, plans a campus ideological and political grand platform, creates innovative practice platforms such as the “Art Masters Lecture Hall,” the “Innovation Cup” Science and Technology Culture Festival, and the “Dedication Cup” Volunteer Service Culture Festival, forming a three-dimensional ideological and political education system of “Innovation and Entrepreneurship + Ideological and Political Education,” “Volunteer Service + Ideological and Political Education,” and “Art + Ideological and Political Education,” cultivating students’ innovative thinking, practical spirit, and sense of social responsibility, strengthening “Five-Education Simultaneous Development” [1]1 “Five-Education Simultaneous Development” refers to the simultaneous development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. in ideological and political work, and implementing “Three-Wide Education” [2]2 “Three-Wide Education” refers to education by all personnel, throughout the entire process, and in all aspects.; at the micro level, it jointly built a “Grand Ideological and Political Course” practical teaching base with Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, relying on the rich educational resources of the base to further explore new models and new ways of ideological and political course teaching, actively educating and guiding the majority of young students to inspire youthful aspirations, jointly build the Chinese Dream, translate life ambitions into down-to-earth practical actions, integrate personal ideals into the cause of the country and the nation, and strive to cultivate new era talents capable of shouldering the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; at the same time, it accelerates the establishment of a network education studio, uses new media platforms such as WeChat to open special columns like “Letter · China,” implants red cultural genes, integrates current hot events, closely follows the great founding spirit of the Party, focuses on the strategy of building a strong manufacturing country, etc., improves the content of network education around student ideological guidance, value shaping, will tempering, and continuation of the red bloodline, and enhances the effectiveness of ideological and political education.

打造特色学校思政工作品牌。学校突出实践教学，办好思政育人“第二课堂”，开启思政育人新篇章，已连续多年开展“一课一品”活动，为品牌特色活动建设注入新活力，让理论与实践教学高度衔接。例如，创建“中国近现代史纲要”特色实践教学品牌，“党史我来讲”活动成效十分显著；“思想道德与法治”课推出“爱在理工”实践教学，以及“马克思主义基本原理”课承办“学马列经典 做时代新人”演讲比赛等，以参与式、互动式、体验式教学厚植学生的爱国之情，为学生打造生动形象的教科书，以实现启智润心、振奋精神、激发斗志的育人成效。学校充分依托中华优秀传统文化、新时代先进文化，建设特色文化与卓越文化，坚定学生的文化自信，通过构建“筑梦·铸魂·立本·树人”办学思想体系，凝聚学术文化、科技创新文化、行业特色文化、网络文化和校友文化等特色文化，以“理工文化”等精神文明专栏为载体，充分发挥全国普通高校中华优秀传统文化传承基地的作用，通过组织举办系列敬礼中华优秀传统文化、理工大舞台、高雅艺术进校园活动，铸牢学生文化共识，实现启智润心的育人成效。学校还注重丰富素质教育资源，积极打造线上线下思政育人良好生态环境。例如，在宏观规划层面，将素质教育纳入人才培养规划，谋划校园思政大平台，创建“艺术名家讲堂”“创新杯”科技文化节、“奉献杯”志愿服务文化节等创新实践平台，形成“创新创业+思政”“志愿服务+思政”“艺术+思政”的立体化思政育人体系，培育学生创新思维、实干精神、社会责任意识，在思政工作中强化“五育并举”，落实“三全育人”；在微观层面，联合武汉大学中南医院共建“大思政课”实践教学基地，依托基地的丰富教育资源，进一步探索思政课教学新模式、新途径，积极教育引导广大青年学子激扬青春志，共筑中国梦，把人生抱负落实到脚踏实地的实际行动中，把个人理想融入国家和民族事业中，努力培养堪当民族复兴大任的时代新人；同时，加快推进网络育人工作室的成立，利用微信等新媒体平台开设“信·中国”专题栏目，植入红色文化基因，融入时事热点事件，紧扣伟大建党精神，聚焦制造强国战略等，围绕学生思想引领、价值塑造、意志锤炼、红色血脉赓续等完善网络育人内容，增强思政育人实效性。

Use the “grand ideological-political course” to pass on the red gene [3]3 “Red gene” refers to the revolutionary spirit and traditions inherited from the Communist Party of China’s history, including values such as loyalty, sacrifice, and service., strengthen the integrated construction of ideological-political education in universities, middle schools, and primary schools, guide students to draw nourishment and strength from red culture, give play to the main force of inheriting the red gene in the New Era, let red culture radiate new brilliance in ideological-political education, and achieve the baptism of students’ souls and the edification of their thoughts. To this end, the school’s graduate student lecture group, in conjunction with the affiliated primary school’s Red Scarf [4]4 The Red Scarf is the symbol of the Young Pioneers of China, a mass organization for children aged 6–14, and is associated with political education at the primary school level. propaganda group, went deep into local primary schools to perform the red drama *The Spirit of the Long March* [5]5 The Long March (1934–1935) was a strategic military retreat by the Red Army of the CPC to evade the Nationalist forces, later mythologized as a foundational epic of the Party’s revolutionary spirit., transmitting red faith and cultivating students’ red spirit. To make ideological-political education more warm, the school integrates volunteer service into ideological-political education, vigorously promotes the spirit of volunteer service, encourages students to devote themselves to the national volunteer service cause, and contribute youthful strength to the motherland. For example, the school’s Kang Qian volunteer service team carries out volunteer service projects through multiple channels, always adhering to the concept of “helping others to help themselves,” focusing on the actual needs of people with disabilities, and implementing the “Assisting Love Forward—Service Plan for the Disabled Love Supermarket”; actively responding to the call for social care for the autistic community, carrying out charity sales of handicrafts made by autistic adolescents, building a communication bridge with autistic patients, etc., continuously expanding the scope of service coverage, providing care and assistance to special groups, attracting a large number of students to take on responsibilities and dedicate themselves in volunteer service. The school creates a walking ideological-political classroom, fully excavates and utilizes the resources of the grand social classroom, opens ideological-political classrooms in factories, communities, fields, and villages, implements open-door ideological-political education, uses vivid and lively educational materials to let students truly understand the lesson of society, and promotes the in-depth development of ideological-political education. For example, it insists on combining the small ideological-political classroom with the grand industry classroom, relying on the three major industry characteristics of building materials and construction, transportation, and automobiles, jointly building practice bases with enterprises, conducting on-site teaching in factory workshops and bridge tunnels, allowing students to feel corporate culture up close and enhance their professional ethics; stepping out of the classroom and into society, establishing a “Three Goings, Three Learnings” [6]6 “Three Goings, Three Learnings” is a locally coined slogan for a project system that likely involves going to different social settings (e.g., factories, communities, rural areas) to learn through practice. project system, carrying out “Three Goings, Three Learnings” activities, providing services around classic event red board games, red map volunteer explanations, red practice study route design, etc., as well as organizing and carrying out the “Red·Hometown Tour” themed practical experience education activity, allowing students to draw spiritual nourishment in tracing red history, and enhance their patriotic heart, ambition to strengthen the country, and action to serve the country in understanding national and social conditions.

用好社会思政大课堂。进一步丰富思政育人的内涵与外延，必须与现实结合起来，通过整合校外资源，打造协同育人共同体，在社会实践中深化学生理论认知，加深学生自我感受与体验，将思政小课堂与社会大课堂结合起来，实现理论教学与实践教学的双向互动。以“大思政”传承红色基因，加强大中小学思政教育一体化建设，引领学生从红色文化中汲取养分与力量，发挥新时代红色基因传承的主体力量，让红色文化在思政教育中焕发新光彩，实现对学生心灵的洗礼和思想的熏陶。为此，学校研究生讲师团联合附属小学红领巾宣讲团深入当地小学表演红色剧目《长征的精神》，传递红色信仰，培育学生红色精神。为了让思政育人更有温度，学校将志愿服务融入思政教育，大力弘扬志愿服务精神，鼓励学生投身于国家志愿服务事业，为祖国贡献青春力量。例如，学校亢茜志愿服务队多渠道开展志愿服务项目，始终秉承“助人自助”理念，聚焦残疾人实际需求，实施“辅爱前行——残疾人爱心超市服务计划”；积极响应社会关爱孤独症群体的号召，开展孤独症青少年手工艺品义卖活动，架构起与孤独症患者的沟通桥梁等，持续扩大服务覆盖范围，为特殊人群提供关怀与帮助，吸引大量学生在志愿服务中挺膺担当，奉献自我。学校打造行走的思政课，充分挖掘利用社会大课堂的资源，将思政课堂开到工厂社区、田间地头，把开门办思政落到实处，用鲜活生动的育人素材，让学生真正读懂社会这门课，推动思政育人工作的纵深发展。例如，坚持将思政小课堂与行业大课堂相结合，依托建材建工、交通、汽车三大行业特色，与企业共建实践基地，在企业车间和桥梁隧道开展现场教学，让学生近距离感受企业文化，提升学生的职业道德素养；走出课堂、走进社会，建立“三走三学”项目体系，开展“三走三学”活动，围绕经典事件红色剧游、红色地图志愿讲解、红色实践研学线路设计等展开服务，以及组织开展“红色·家乡行”主题实践体验教育活动，让学生在追溯红色历史中汲取精神养分，在感悟国情、社情中增强爱国心、强国志和报国行。
